چکیده

The causal set approach to quantum gravity states that spacetime is not a continuous Lorenztian manifold but a causal set composed of discrete spacetime elements together with their causal relations. It is argued that using only causality and discreteness, one can recover a more fundamental theory of gravitation with interesting qualities. Though the theory is incomplete, some phenomenological models have been developed, one of which is discussed here. Since discrete spacetime is locally finite, there are a finite number of paths a free massive particle can take. It will be forced to deviate from its classical geodesic path through a process known as swerving. This model was been developed for Minkowski spacetime, and in this paper we attempt to generalise the model to Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime which is used in cosmology.

0 Causality of the brane universe

Causal structure of the brane universe with respect to null geodesics in the bulk spacetime is studied. It is pointed out that apparent causality violation is possible for the brane universe which contains matter energy. It is also shown that there is no ‘horizon problem’ in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker brane universe.

Deviation of geodesics in FLRW spacetime geometries

The geodesic deviation equation (‘GDE’) provides an elegant tool to investigate the timelike, null and spacelike structure of spacetime geometries. Here we employ the GDE to review these structures within the Friedmann–Lemâıtre–Robertson–Walker (‘FLRW’) models, where we assume the sources to be given by a non-interacting mixture of incoherent matter and radiation, and we also take a non-zero co...

On the Asymptotic Character of Electromagnetic Waves in a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker Universe

Asymptotic properties of electromagnetic waves are studied within the context of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmology. Electromagnetic fields are considered as small perturbations on the background spacetime and Maxwell’s equations are solved for all three cases of flat, closed and open FRW universes. The asymptotic character of these solutions are investigated and their relevance to the ...
